Music is a global language. As the saying goes, “When words fail, music speaks,” and music spoke at the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) Middle School Honor Band and Choir Performance on March 30. The statement made was that nothing brings a community together like music.
MAP Testing Schedule

The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) testing for students in the Francis Howell School District will take place during the month of April. MAP tests are mandated by the state, and are intended to help determine what a child knows and is able to do according to the expectations for his or her grade level. Scores on the MAP tests are also used to determine how schools are performing according to state and federal guidelines.
Students and Staff Raise Money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation

On March 16, students and staff at Hollenbeck Middle School went head-to-head in a basketball game for a great cause. The result? Fun and fundraising, as the students beat the staff by 20 points! The game was a victory for students and for charity. Students and staff came together to help a fellow student in need at Francis Howell High School through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and they raised a total of $365. The funds were collected from food sales, St. Patrick’s Day beads sales, and admission.
National Junior Honor Society's Second Annual Food Drive - Operation Backpack

Through the months of February and March, students at Hollenbeck Middle School participated in the National Junior Honor Society’s second-annual food drive, Operation Backpack. In collaboration with Operation Food Search and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, students and staff came together to fill backpacks with food for needy children. The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honor society of international women educators.
Hollenbeck Final Exam Schedule

Hollenbeck will continue with its half day schedules. Students will take finals with corresponding periods and will be allowed additional time for completion if necessary.
An Army of Do-Gooders – Hollenbeck’s Toy Drive for Salvation Army Is a Success

Hollenbeck Middle School’s annual toy drive for the Salvation Army was an overwhelming success this year. During the holiday season it’s easy to take for granted all the people and things in our lives, but Hollenbeck Middle students not only appreciate their blessings, they want to share them with those who are less fortunate. As a result, students and staff filled four barrels with toys, which will be distributed to families in need in the St. Charles area.

Did you know it is a Hollenbeck tradition to go to Dairy Queen after band concerts? Don't know when this tradition started, but the PTO wants to help continue it! The fundraiser will be Dec. 13, 5-9 PM, at the DQ at the intersection of St. Peters Howell Rd. and Mid Rivers Mall Dr, with portions of all sales going to the Hollenbeck PTO.

Beck Technology Committee Invites to 21st Century Learners & Dine Out on Dec. 12

Please support our "21st Century Learners and Dine Out" event at Freddy's on Jungermann on Monday, Dec. 12, from 3 - 10 PM. Freddy's will donate a portion of their sales to the Hollenbeck Technology Committee. These funds will be used to purchase new technology to promote the teaching and integration of 21st Century skills.

New FHSD Safety Measures Include Unannounced Intruder Drills

Student safety is always a top priority of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD). The District annually conducts a variety of safety drills including fire, tornado, earthquake and intruder drills. Participation in these safety drills is where most students get directly involved in their own safety. New this year, FHSD will conduct one unannounced intruder drill at each of our schools.
Bestselling Author Jessica Brody Visits Hollenbeck With Message of Encouragement

When bestselling author Jessica Brody visited Hollenbeck Middle school on Sept. 14, it was more than just another speaker event. To the students, it was an inspiring and uplifting experience because Brody, with her funny jokes and relatable charm, knows the emotions every young person growing up is going through. The message she sent was crucial for them to hear: it’s okay to take a bit longer to find yourself, and it’s okay to keep changing paths until you do.

FHSD Recognized for Bus Safety

The buses that safely transport students of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) every day will display a special new sticker starting in August, after earning the “Total Fleet Excellence” distinction for 2016. The stickers indicate excellence in the overall maintenance and reliability of the District’s bus fleet. The distinction is determined by the Missouri State Highway Patrol based on the results of the annual school bus inspection, a program conducted by the Patrol’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Division.

New Immunization Requirement for Incoming Eighth Graders and Seniors

Beginning with the 2016-17 school year, all eighth grade students and incoming high school seniors will be required to have the meningococcal (meningitis) vaccine. These immunizations are required by the State of Missouri prior to the start of school.
