6th GRADE
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Sixth grade physical education is designed to refine basic skills and skill combinations in a variety of sports-related settings. The student should be able to participate in moderate to vigorous physical activities in a variety of settings. Students will develop an understanding of the fitness components and how they relate to their overall fitness. Sixth graders will develop cooperation skills to accomplish group and team goals in cooperative and competitive games. Activities may include recreational games and sports, team sports and lead-up games, rhythm, and personal fitness and exercise. All students are required to dress out in an approved gym uniform for physical education.
HEALTH
Students will understand the health triangle (mental, social and physical health) and the balance necessary to maintain overall health and wellness. The health units include: nutrition, body systems: digestive, muscular, skeletal, excretory, and integumentary and human growth and development. Consumer health and personal and family health curriculum will be incorporated into the 6

grade PE Curriculum periodically throughout the year.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Seventh grade physical education encourages the refinement of motor skill combinations used in complex game environments. An introduction to the rules and strategies of individual/team sports is emphasized. Health-enhancing level of physical fitness is established through assessment and goal setting. Through participation, students will develop respect for others and an awareness of opportunities for lifelong fitness. All students are required to dress out in an approved gym uniform for physical education.
HEALTH
Students will apply the decision making process to all areas of overall health. Emphasis will be placed on choices made and the consequences associated with these choices. Focus will be on use of TAOD (tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs) and their effects on physical, mental and social health. Students will be introduced to basic first aid procedures and techniques, and the interdependence of the body systems.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical Education at this level promotes the use of specialized skill in sports and fitness activities. Emphasis is on applying movement concepts and principles to real-life situations. The knowledge of rules and game strategies is developed through participation. Students will accept responsibility for their own personal fitness and pursue lifelong physical activity to meet their own needs. All students are required to dress out in an approved gym uniform for physical education.
HEALTH
Students will gain knowledge of diseases and disorders associated with all the body systems and identify prevention and treatment strategies. There will be focus on lifestyle behaviors and choices as they relate to a person’s health. Emphasis will be placed on the role of communication skills and relationships and their association to overall health and wellness.
